The Economic Times (dated 28th November, 2008) carried an article on the importance of pre-employment screening in the specific context of the Mumbai 26/11 terror attacks.
There were some unverified reports that a few terrorists involved in the 26/11 attacks were camouflaging themselves as employees of the attacked hotels for a few months prior to the attacks. It is pointed out in the article that a robust system of carrying out Background Checks on employees would have helped in filtering out prospective employees with malafide intent.
